Hey guys check out my new blogpost on red and dark/vampy lipstick!
Hey all, Asa here!
So in my previous post you guys saw a swatch of NYC HD Color Trio in Long Beach Sands. Before I start my review (with pictures of course!) I need to disclose that I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. This is no way affects my opinion of the product.
The NYC product page description is: “PUT THE HD IN BEAUTY FOR AN EXPLOSION OF COLOR! From 4G to 3D to HD, technology is the key to always be on top. So channel your inner geek and put the HD in beauty! NYC steps up its game with the new HD Trio Eye Shadow Palettes. High pay-off colors pick up the intensity with a true staying power. Get HD colors at low prices!”
The color I received in my Jolly VoxBox is Long Beach Sands:
This is the front of the trio
and the back:
(Sorry for the blurriness)
The back sticker peels off to show a diagram of how to put on eye shadow and the ingredients. The diagram is pretty helpful for those who are new to putting on eye shadow.
What’s even more helpful is that there is also a little plastic cover on the eye shadow that shows where each color is supposed to go. For example the first eye shadow, a champagne color is a highlighter so it can go on the browbone and the inner corner of the eyes.
Here is a picture of the ingredients list:
I really wanted to like this trio because NYC is one of my favorite drugstore brands, but the first and third colors were kind of chalky. I used a primer which seemed to hep a little bit. The middle color is one of my favorite brown eye shadows because it applied really nicely and is just a really pretty color.
(I had to swatch these on my mom’s arm because she is much lighter than I am).
With that being said, I had a hard time swatching these, especially the middle color, because it didn’t really show up on my skin. I think this is supposed to be a nude trio but for me, this is way too light. This is a problem that New York Color needs to work on because I know that there are many other people out there who would want to buy a nice nude palette at the drugstore, but a lot of the times the nude colors only work on a small percentage of the population. This is a nice way of saying “Please make nude eye shadows that cater to darker skinned people as well.”
And it’s not only NYC, there are other brands who call really light shades ‘nude’ and make no moves to create darker shades. I’m tired of feeling like the standard human is a fairskinned person. (Perhaps the NYC team needs to look up diversity and micro-aggressions).
Although Maybelline did create a colection of lipstick called “The Buffs” and they come in a wide range of shades. Bless you Maybelline. I’m waiting, New York Color.
Would I recommend the HDColor Trio in Long Beach Sands? Only if you have a good primer and fair skin.
